Plot
An author returns to his hometown of Jerusalem to find inspiration for his next book, only to discover that the residents are being attacked by a bloodthirsty vampire. It wants to move away from the sexier, more romantic undead that have infected pop culture for the better part of the last quarter century, thanks to everything from Interview with the Vampire to Twilight to The Vampire Diaries. When Ben is reading old newspapers on microfilm in the library, the headline reads “Drunk driving victims are local couple.” The paper is said to have been printed in 1956, at a time when the term “DUI” was not yet in use. That’s pretty average
Sundown Written and Performed by Gordon Lightfoot Courtesy of Warner Records Warner Music Group Film & TV licensing. First of all, I have to say that even if it is a weak Stephen King adaptation, it is at least watchable. This is a testament to King’s work. Good thing this movie is a King movie.
But every aspect of the story’s development has been abandoned
At the beginning of the film I was very excited, everything was going well, there was an atmosphere of restlessness and it looked very cool. Pretty quickly we get to the point where people just disappear from the city. It happens so fast and the only people left “know” it’s the vampires. They seem to know who the main vampire is right away and it makes no sense.
Also, no bleeding
I’ve seen some incredibly bad horror movies in my life, and this one isn’t bad, it’s just too fast. In a vampire movie. Damage. If this had been an 8-10 episode miniseries it would have worked.
The elements are there
The cast is here. I have to commend it for staying true to the source material, it shows that the creators understood what they were working with. The final season of What We Do in the Shadows is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month. Check out our October calendar and learn more!
